Science Café offers a relaxed, open venue for scientists and passionate individuals in Greenville, South Carolina, to come together and share their love for science. 

Each month, we feature engaging talks by local scientists and enthusiasts who discuss their latest work and discoveries.

For our September topic, it's all about Public Health in the Upstate, especially for SC Upstate Region!

Public health programs are the backbone of a healthy society, providing essential services that range from disease prevention and health education to maternal care and mental health support. For women, these programs are especially vital, offering resources and services that empower them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Meet our next scientist, Dr. Kandi Fredere.

Dr. Kandi Fredere is at the forefront of enhancing public health, not only across the Upstate Region, but also how public health impacts all our communities. With a deep commitment to community well-being, she leads efforts to implement public health programs that address the unique needs of our region, ensuring alignment with state and national health guidelines.

Dr. Fredere brings her expertise in chronic disease risk reduction, maternal and child health, and public health administration to the table, making her an invaluable resource for our community. Her passion lies in engaging with diverse partners—from higher education and nonprofits to faith-based organizations and K-12 education—ensuring that public health initiatives are inclusive, accessible, and effective.
